 At a glance Standards, safety categories & additional requirements Regulations and rules for foot protection Foot protection as PPE (personal protective equipment) is regulated in the standards EN ISO 20344-EN ISO 20347. Regulations and procedures for testing are contained in EN ISO 20344. Different levels of protection are classified in the standards EN ISO 20345-20347 as follows: • EN ISO 20345 "Safety footwear" with protective toecaps that can withstand a test energy of 200 joules. Marking "S". • EN ISO 20346 "Safety footwear" with protective toecaps capable of withstanding a test energy of 100 joules. Marking "P". • EN ISO 20347 "Occupational footwear" without protective toecaps. Marking "O". Baak safety shoes comply with the EN ISO 20345 standard and are equipped with toe caps that withstand the highest possible im- pact energy of 200 joules and a pressure of 15 kN. They meet all basic requirements of the regulation (EU) 2016/425 for personal protective equipment. These basic requirements are identified by the letters SB and are e.g. • anti-slip and abrasion resistance of the outsole • Separation force between sole and shoe upper • Tear strength, strength, water vapor permeability, water vapor number, ph value of lining and outer material • harmlessness (no AZO dyes) and wearing comfort Additional requirements can be fulfilled depending on the requirements of the field of application and must be marked on the shoe, e.g: A Antistatic shoe E Energy absorption in the heel area P Penetration resistance of the outsole CI Cold insulation HRO Behavior towards contact heat WRU Water passage and absorption SRC Mark for highest category of slip resistance according to DIN EN 13287 S1 S2 S3 SRC     Safety Category S1 The shoes of this category are suitable for areas in which no influence of moisture is expected. They fulfil the important additional requirements: the ability to absorb energy in the heel, a closed heel area, a fuel-resistant sole and an antistatic design of the outsole. Safety Category S2 As S1, but with uppers preventing water penetration, for areas in which the influence of moisture is expected. Slip resistance Slip resistance of the highest category according to DIN EN 13287, test passed on ceramic tiles with detergent (SRA) as well as steel floor with oil (SRB). WR Waterproof Protection against water penetration (tested on the complete shoe). S3 ü ü ü ü ü ü ü ü      P Penetration protection Protection against the penetration of sharp objects through the sole (S1P). CI Cold insulation Protection against cold through a cold-insulation outsole (max. temperature drop of 10°C in 30 min). Safety Category S3 As S2, but, in addition, with a penetration-resistant midsole, for areas in which the risk of sharp objects penetrating the sole exists. HRO Heat resistance Protection against contact heat through a heat-resistant outsole (60 seconds at up to 300°C).
